Sometimes when you travel, everything works like clockwork, with no hitches, no delays and no gremlins thrown in to slow everything down ….. and I’m happy to say that today was one of those days.
About 3 months ago my hubby suggested that I come down to the Luberon for a few days, just to get some much needed R & R and happily that has now evolved into me being here for a week, before he joins me with our boys. I must admit I have been a bit taken aback by people looking shocked that I am coming on my own, with suggestions that I may get bored or lonely, when I know that there are always so many ways to spend the days here.
I arrived at Marseille this afternoon, after a very easy flight from a partially mothballed and almost deserted Terminal 1 at Heathrow………
After an easy passage through passport control and baggage collection I picked up my hire car and headed straight up the Autoroute du Soleil to Maubec, a small village set just on the North-Western flank of the Petit Luberon.
We have rented the house via the French Website PAP (Particulier A Particulier) www.pap.fr (a first for us), but we have had a great experience and I arrived at a lovely villa to be met by the very helpful owner, who has done everything possible to make our stay as easy and as comfortable as possible, in what is his family home – it even comes with chickens and a very friendly local rabbit that pops into the garden each evening
As he was showing me around a bike was delivered from http://veloservices.jimdo.com/ in nearby L’Isle Sur La Sorgue, so that I can explore the area at my own pace, covering some of my favourite routes over the next few days.
A quick trip to nearby Coustellet meant I could stock up with what I needed for the evening before settling back to a simple supper with a glass of chilled rose, whilst watching the shadows move up the rocky slopes of the Luberon just behind the house.
Tomorrow I aim to get up early & head off on the bike to L’Isle Sur La Sorgue for its fantastic Sunday market, then perhaps onto Fontaine de Vaucluse to take a gentle walk along the riverside path to see the source of the Sorgue, although the plan may change.
It does feel a bit strange being on my own, without the boys to keep me company, but I am determined to enjoy these few days until they come down and join me. Until then I hope you enjoy my posts.
