A Family Cycle to Provence – are we mad??

I’m not sure exactly how we got here, but after a few false starts we have decided to take on a rather long family cycle ride next summer, which will take us from our home on the northern flank of Dartmoor, across the Channel to France and then through the Country (visiting some of our favourite haunts) to end up in Provence.

Last year, whilst on holiday in Provence (after a glass or two of wine) we decided to take on the ride to the summit of Mont Ventoux the following day, which was a great success and spurred us on to do yet more cycling.

We have known people who have cycled the Velodyssey and at first we thought that would be a perfect route for us to tackle, but the more we looked at it the more we fancied doing something different that would allow us to pass through some of the places we visited with the boys when they were much younger. Add to that our love affair with Provence (particularly the Luberon) and we started to hatch a plan to look at a cycle route that would take us across the Country on a big family adventure.

This blog will be a record of our planning for the trip and then the trip itself and inevitably the trials, tribulations and sore muscles (and bottoms) that will follow – we hope you will enjoy following our exploits, which all being well, this time next year, will see us heading surely, albeit a little slowly towards Provence.
