We’ve always loved hunting around French Antiques shops, Brocante markets and the wonderful Vide Greniers, which take place in the local villages – always on the hunt for something a little different to take home with us.
Provence is a great place to be for this with great markets and events on our doorstep, or within a couple of hours drive including Sommieres, which is one of my favourites. We also are within 30 mins drive of the beautiful town of L’Isle Sur La Sorgue, with its Sunday Brocante Market and vast selection of Antiques’ Shops, together with its massive Arts & Antiques Fairs that take place there a couple of times a year Antiques, Art & You – L’Isle Sur La Sorgue
Having our own place in France now allows us to indulge ourselves even more and so you’ll often find us at the local recycling centre, which has been a great source of superb furniture for us too Apt Recycling Centre or up early at the weekend and out of the door, heading off towards another event.
The Brocante markets are great places to find unusual pieces for the house and garden and we’ve brought back cupboards, a dresser, mirrors, screens, side tables, old zinc baths and buckets amongst other things to furnish our little place (once we’ve had coffee & croissant of course!).
We also hunt for old silver & other quirky pieces (including old chandelier ‘pampilles’ for my business, making jewellery from antique and vintage finds Dartmoor Silver Designs and I held my first Exhibition in Provence last summer, which proved to be a great experience and will hopefully become a regular event.
